Dave Crumley and I went on an archery elk hunt near West Yellowstone. Third year in a row.

We didn't bring home an elk this year but it was fun.

Meriwether Fire

Here are some pictures taken by the Forest Service:
This helicopter can suck up about 2000 gallons of water in one minute:

The super scooper can pick up about 1600 gallons of water:

Each retardant drop is said to cost $10,000:
Backcountry cabins are wrapped in foil to reflect radiant heat:

The fire doesn't seem to be getting any closer to us. We got some rain last night which should help some- though it is expected to continue to burn until we get some snow.

75% contained

A few pictures from the last couple of weeks:

Some big smoke columns:

(That is our house)

Pretty much the entire wilderness area burned. About 41,000 acres.

The bridge was load tested! :

Heading up toward Hogback Mountain:

Keep it simple! :

Water tank set up at the Winterburn cabin:

The fire is mostly contained. There is still some chance that the fire could flare up but things are looking pretty good right now.
