Back to the Emily C mine

Last weekend I camped out with my friend Paul from work and some of his family. We hiked around and explored the area and also hiked in to the Emily C mine. Everything was there just as I had left it. I did a little work on the cabin, raising two logs. I accidentally uncovered another antique tool. This one I was able to make use of right away. It is called a log dog and is used to hold a log in place while it is being worked on.

Here is the old "log dog" showing off:

This weekend I stayed at home and worked on the workshop cabin roof. I will post pictures of it later.

Next weekend I hope to head back down to the mine and spend a couple of days there.

I am looking forward to Terry and Brandon's visit in a few weeks. I have a lot planned for us.

Log Cabin Workshop

Last weekend I put on a 3 day log cabin building workshop. There were six people who attended: two from Canada, two from Virginia, one from Florida and one from Colorado.

Here are some sketches of the cabin, with some furniture thrown in just to get an idea of a possible arrangement.

From that, the wall elevation drawings and cutlist were made.

I had cut about 10 logs before they arrived then they cut the rest that were needed for the cabin walls. I hired another person to be the sawmill instructor. He works for the company that makes the sawmill so he was very well qualified.

This cabin is 11x15, just like the little one I am in now, It will have taller walls, larger windows and electrical wiring built in rather than added after the fact.

It was a lot of hard work but the weather was really nice and everyone enjoyed it.

The plan was to sell the cabin after it is done but now I may want to keep it.

The window on the right is framed out. The doors and the other windows are not yet fully cut out yet.

Not bad for 3 days work!
Now I think I have enough unfinished projects. I better finish the ones I have now before starting any new ones!
