Hunting Trip

Fred and I woke up @ 4:00am to go hunting for elk on horseback today. We did not get anything but did see a mountain goat, a mule deer, a grouse and a lot of cattle. Fred walked in and saw a cow elk. We heard a bull bugle and tried to call him in but he wasn't interested in us. Here are some pictures from the adventure.

Trail Camera Photos

Dave and I went on our annual hunting trip in SW Montana. A month ago I put out three motion activated game cameras at some elk wallows. We checked two of the cameras. When I got to this spot, I found the camera had been chewed up by a bear. It was destroyed but at least I got a few pictures.

It was a sony p41 camera.

At the spot Dave was going to hunt, I had put out a Moultrie Camera. Got over 850 pictures. Most were cows and calves but there were some moose:

Here is a big herd that got spooked, probably by a wolf:

Here is a nice bull posing for the camera:

And a grizzly bear:

Opening morning:

We wasted 30 minutes chasing a horse around camp that morning. I guess we can blame the horse for Dave not getting an elk.

As for me, I sat in my blind from around 8:30 AM to 7:00 PM. A long day! After awhile this mouse got used to me and came for a visit: (center of the photo)

At 5:30 a really big 6x6 bull came out. I ranged him at 80 yards (max bow range is ~40). He started in my direction then caught my scent, turned around and walked away. At 7:00 two more elk came by around 90 yards also but never got closer. That was all the elk I saw in 3 days.

I had to add the photo of this little guy that was on one of the cameras:
